During the process, I came up with two names, I found fun and really had liked to use. Those where CordBoard and Button up, but after running them through Lingzini.com and Domaintools.com I found that those where in use in one way or the other. Therefore, I used Lingzini.com to play with some associated words. What I came up with is in the spreadsheet below.
My Gap is a storage that can hang in the living/office space where one can store charge cabels securely, with minimal effort. It is important that the storage does not wear on the cables and it would be good if the fastening parts (elastics/strips/Velcro) can come down with cables for ease of travel. It is important that the storage can make a high tech statement in the home/office space.
Key user needs
The charge cord storage holds multiple cords
The charge cord storage sits fastened to one place
The charge cord storage holds so that the cords will not tangle
The charge cord storage is aesthetically pleasing
The charge cord storage is made of durable materials
Note 1: Regarding shape color and materials.
The CordPad comes in different shapes. Rectangle, an imitation of a phenomenon like a cloud or a circle. It comes in five colors in accordance with what is "hot" in interior design at the time. Now the chosen material is some lacquered light metal.
Note 2: Regarding Buttonholes, buttons and straps, materials and color.
In making of the Alfa prototype, it came clear that it did not work well to have the "buttonholes" as round openings. It proved to be much more secure to have the "buttonholes" as half circles with a small slot going down from the hole, so the “buttonhole” gets a kind of a mushroom like shape. It gave me the idea that the buttons might have a mushroom like form and in that case, I would like the buttons to be made of porcelain with lustrous glazing in different colors. In that case, the elastics/straps would be in some neutral color. If on the other hand the buttons are made in for ex. some metal (with a statement) the straps should be in colors. The straps and the buttons deserve a design process of their own.
Next step.
As a next step, I would like to contact some manufacturers to find out about costs of production and materials, to be able to estimate if it could stand a chance being realistic to produce. I would at least love to have a useable example to show for the work in this course. If it the artifact are producible, in a cost effective manner the next step would be to design brand logo and packing and ... thousand other things I cannot think of right now.
